The Click Me Literacy app is for persons learning to read and write in Canadian English. Explanations support literacy concepts taught in primary grades. The Click Me Literacy app is designed by veteran elementary school teachers to help learners find answers independently. The app may reduce learners’ waiting time to get an answer to a literacy question. At home, learners may access answers when their adults are busy or are unfamiliar with a concept. In a classroom, the app may reduce student interruptions when the teacher is working in depth with individual students or small groups.

The animated explanations, layout and video series will be tested with four groups of learners: children aged 3-12 learning in school or at home, multi-aged learners with special needs, adults improving literacy skills, and multi-aged English-language learners.

The animated explanations, layout and video series will be tested with classroom teachers, educational consultants, and university professors studying the effects of various pedagogies (ways of teaching).

Experienced elementary classroom educators are developing the explanations for the Click Me Literacy App, and the video series Word Patterns with Nature Words, and Teacher Tips for Tutors. Current learners will be invited to add explanations to Click Me Literacy.

Experienced elementary classroom educators and nature and geographic experts are developing the episodes for Some Big Words from Canada. Indigenous Knowledge Keepers will contribute to the chapters on Setting, as well as ensure the episode's entire script is inclusive and respectful. Some of the showrunner's former Grade 1 students are voicing the animated learners. The students have direct input into the script and delivery.

Experienced elementary classroom educators create the video series Naturehood Videos for Canadian Kiddeos. As restrictions for covid-19 lift, children aged 4-8 may be involved in co-creating the episodes. The children may choose their own topic, purpose, audience, format, and words for the video they create within the episode.

Click Me Literacy is the first app developed by Elementary Curriculum Digitizers, and available at Click Me Learning.com.

Click Me Literacy is an app to support persons learning Canadian English. It is designed to be used by learners when they do not have direct access to a teacher, parent or helper. It is designed so that learners who are stuck in their reading or writing may find their answer independently. Click Me Literacy has videos and animations to explain each of the basic literacy concepts of reading and writing. The explanations present the perspective of an experienced elementary teacher and five different types of learners: sequential, visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and nature learners.

When you subscribe to the Click Me Literacy app, you receive support for every reading and writing concept taught in primary grades. With one monthly fee, you get access to all of our Literacy resources: six rooms within the app, and four video series.

Elementary Curriculum Digitizers is currently developing materials to build the initial version of the Click Me Literacy app and video series. The estimated date of launch is September 1, 2021. After the initial launch, subscribers can expect new material at the beginning of each month.

Subscription fees cover research, development and testing costs for the app and video series, contributor’s royalties, wages, and business and administration costs. A portion of revenues will deliver devices and Click Me Literacy to learners without access.

Technology cannot replace a teacher or tutor who is listening and helping one learner at a time. The greatest improvements in learning happen when a teacher is working with an individual or small group to grasp a new idea or unravel a misconception. While in a conference with one or some learners, a teacher may have other learners with questions who either must wait or interrupt the conference. Many of these questions about literacy can be answered by listening or watching a recording of a teacher’s or learner’s explanation. A reliable, trusted repository of literacy answers could help learners gain independence. In a classroom, if most learners can work independently, then the classroom teacher should have more uninterrupted minutes to work with an individual or small group.

Click Me Literacy is different from other literacy apps because it supports work that has been chosen by the learner or the learner’s teacher. Click Me Literacy supports curriculum expectations that exist across Canadian ministries of education: many other apps have designed their own curriculum.

Click Me Literacy supports work in progress, and enables a learner to overcome a hurdle and quickly return to their work. Click Me Literacy does not require learners to play a game or collect points, or have distractions that take time away from the learner’s work in progress.

Click Me Literacy does not have levels of achievement or certificates of learning. Some of the videos in the Library may be sorted by reading difficulty, but access is always available, regardless of previous accomplishments. Click Me Literacy may have small, optional assessments that support the work learners are doing in their educational setting.

Click Me Literacy supports learners’ choices, direction, and pace. Although the journey through the six apps could be sequential, i.e., start “here” and finish “here”, there are absolutely no restrictions on movement through the app. Menus are always available so that learners may exit an animation or video when they choose. The entire curriculum is always available so that learners may find the answer they need at the moment.
