Founder's Story

When no adults are available, wouldn’t it be fun for kids to have talking picture tools to help them learn to read and write?

When I was learning how to read and write, my mom answered lots of questions right away.  I could soon see patterns and make predictions on my own.

When I grew up and was teaching young readers and writers, they had many more questions than I could answer during class time. My students tried looking on existing reading apps, but the answers they urgently needed were not accessible. Hmm… could I put the lessons the children needed in an app that they could navigate independently, both at school and at home?

Yes!  Now after five years of preparation and prototyping, Click Me Printing is helping early readers and writers to learn sounds, letters, and how to print them.

Many more apps are in development, to empower literacy with navigation and lessons learners can access on-demand, when an adult is not available. Our team is making resources that busy parents and educators can trust for efficient and engaging learning, so that learners can accomplish their self-chosen specific reading or writing task. All content is accessible all of the time. We strive for learners finding exactly what is needed with interactive, digital multimedia - talking picture tools.

Caring, knowledgeable, responsive humans will always be the first choice to help learners grow. In our digital resources, lessons are delivered by caring and knowledgeable people, with as much responsive interactivity as possible. The five child actors you hear were my former Grade 1 students and had younger siblings learning to read and write during that year. Each of them understand and deliver a helpful, loving vibe. I am so grateful to them and their families.

Over thirty-one years in the classroom, my students taught me that with resources, time, practice, and patience, they often accomplished more than I even imagined, and were so proud of what they could do on their own. This is what I strive for, for every learner.

Eileen White, Scriptwriter, Voice Actor “Omaleenee”, Founder, CEO

I am working to give learners (and parents and teachers) constant access to literacy answers, so they can practice reading and writing without getting "stuck". I bring empathy for students, parents and teachers, and bring persistence to create excellent resources. I taught students in Ontario elementary grades for more than 31 years. After retiring in 2018 I pursued an M.A. in Media Production at Toronto Metropolitan University to learn how to develop the interactive multimedia resources that I would have loved to have had for my young students. I love spending time with dear ones, meeting new places and faces, and learning how to accomplish what I imagine.

Fiona Moreland, Scriptwriter, On-screen Expert "Biologist Fiona"

I have a Biology degree from the University of Guelph and have spent my 35 year career working in resource management and conservation. I have had the privilege of working for Parks Canada for much of that time – in Pukaskwa National Park, ON, Gros Morne NL, Bruce Peninsula ON (where I met Eileen!), Wood Buffalo NT, and Prince Albert SK.  I also worked for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (Glenora, Napanee, Thunder Bay, Ignace, Terrace Bay) and even a brief stint at a gold mine in Northern Ontario.  My passion is the outdoors and everything in it, and I am so happy to be part of helping children learn about some of the creatures that share this beautiful planet with us.

Rob Ritchie, Writer, Producer, Soundtrack Composer

I am excited to be a part of the Click Me™ team.  As a novelist and editor, I am always keenly interested in literacy projects and I believe this one is a gem.  So I am excited to be tasked with writing and producing mini-documentaries about various literacy concepts as part of the program.

For the past thirty years I have also been a touring songwriter and musician, chiefly with the folk/roots band Tanglefoot but also with such diverse musical acts as RPRHarp and Holly and Midnight Blue.  I am looking forward to adding my skills to Click Me™ by composing and recording a wide array of soundtracks for the program’s learning videos.

When I’m not working, I am an avid reader (of course), a runner, cross-country skier and open-water swimmer.  For more info, please visit www.robritchiemedia.com

Tammy Patrick, Virtual Meeting Facilitator

It is a great privilege to participate in this project which will help children in their learning process. Learning is an essential part of our life journey. Learning and languages are my passion. I have a degree in French-English translation with German as a third language. A fluent Spanish speaker, I have some knowledge of a few other languages. Currently, I am studying Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin).

As the facilitator, I will welcome you to the virtual introductory meeting and will monitor questions and comments during Eileen's presentation.

In the summer, I enjoy puttering in my little garden.

Erin Seaman, Tourist Town Illustrator & Designer

Our team is so excited to be a part of Click MeTM Learning development; such a worthwhile project that will help countless children gain independence and confidence in literacy skill development.

Floyd Leroy, Animator

I've been interested in animation and the animation process for most of my life and am thrilled to be able to contribute those skills towards helping students with the reading and writing process. I bring my personal knowledge of animation, including an understanding of visual clarity and motion graphics in a digital format. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in animation from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2013, and have been working on various productions for both individuals and studios since 2017. Although my primary passion is in cartooning, I also have an interest in mathematics, physics, and astronomy and am currently studying in preparation to continue my education in that direction. I look forward to working again with the Click Me Learning team!

Stephen Mowette, Digital Illustrator and 2D Artist

I am working on Click Me Learning because I think this would revolutionise the learning process for kids.  Being once a kid myself I enjoyed interactive applications like Microsoft Encarta Kids.  It was super fun, and I was able to learn so much about the world around me while believing I was simply having fun.  It’s a wonderful project!

I’m a digital illustrator and 2D artist.  I helped design the characters, adding more life to them.  I remember how exciting working on the characters was.  Their original designs were a fantastic foundation.

I really enjoy drawing and creating art. I am really excited to be accepted by VanArts – Vancouver Institute of Media Arts.  I also enjoy playing the guitar when I get in the mood for that.  I also watch a lot of Anime.  My favourite Anime character has to be Saitama from the One Punch Man manga series.  I would love to have my own show someday!

Christy Eaglesham, Voice Coach

This program is a perfect complement to the work I have spent a lifetime doing with children in theatre.  It is deeply satisfying to watch them develop their skills and abilities as they strive to be of assistance to those who need help with literacy. I create a safe space that nurtures and encourages curiosity, self-awareness, and pride in their ability to successfully accomplish their goals. I love the energy children bring when they are engaged in activities that fill them with joy and interest.  It is infectious and motivating.

Alexis, Voice Actor “Vis”

I am working on Click MeTM Literacy because I love working with children of all ages! I feel happy to know that I can help other learners achieve greater success and develop a love for reading and writing.  I think kids would benefit from my personality. I have a lot of patience, energy and enthusiasm for learning!  My hobbies include gymnastics, soccer, music, and arts and crafts. I love to read and write! I also enjoy helping younger kids and teaching them new skills.

Brendan, Voice Actor “Kin”

I was asked by Ms. White if I could use my dramatic skills to help create her site. She was my teacher in Grade 1 and she told me she thought of me right away when she came up with the character of Kin, who is the energetic one of the group. I am breathing life into the character of Kin and making him my own by applying my own personality into him. I hope he can be enjoyed! I like spending time with my family, getting out and about, and even though I voice the character of the kinesthetic learner, I do enjoy snuggling up with a book and staying still for hours at a time. I have lots of interests.

Easton, Voice Actor, “Nate”

I like helping kids to read. I am helping my Reading Buddy at school.I have an older brother and three younger sisters and I am from the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. I know a lot about nature. I like voice acting.  I get to work with my friends, and I get to learn more things than I already knew about nature. My hobbies are playing gaga ball at school, drawing, and video games.

Kyle, Voice Actor “Seq”

I really want to help other people learn to read and I think this project is a great way to teach it. I am very expressive and can make several different voices.  I practice by reading to my younger siblings, using different voices for the different characters in the books.

Taylor, Voice Actor “Audie”

I am working with Click MeTM Literacy because I want to help all the other kids out there who might be like me.  I have learning differences and apps like this have helped me and given me the tools I need to learn to read and write. I bring understanding and patience. I know how we are all so different and how that is a wonderful thing.  I am so excited I get to be a part of helping other kids learn to love reading.  I love spending time outdoors and camping with friends and family. I also love creating art and collecting.

Hunter, Narrator

I really like the idea of helping other kids to learn to read. I am very outgoing, and I love to explore making sound effects. My two favourite things to do are practice using my imagination by either playing make believe with my younger sister or by writing stories.  I also play video games.

Skylar, Narrator

I want to learn to read just like my big brothers and I want to help other little sisters learn too. I am shy but I am willing to learn new skills, and to show other shy people they can do this too. I love to play with my brothers, colouring and building things with Lego.
